Multi Systemiotic Talks
[T]he meaning of a word is its use in the language.
- Ludwig Wittgenstein
MUST Research Network brings together those researchers and students who are interested in systemic-functional linguistics, multisemiotics and multimodality. The Network pursues interdisciplinary approaches that aim to merge research methods of SFL-discourse analysis with the research interests of other approaches. These interests are directed towards meaning realisations that combine the linguistic resources with other semiotic resources – graphic images, films and videos, music, body language, spatial semiotics, etc.
MUST activities include a MUST-discussion forum, which meets monthly and where also visiting scholars present their work, a reading circle, and developing research projects and teaching materials for courses in multisemiotics, etc. The Network also organises academic symposia. The first symposium, MUST 1, was held in July 2007; the second, MUST 2, will be taking place June 9-10, 2008.
MUST activities are coordinated by Prof. Eija Ventola and Ivan Berazhny. Contact address: must.finland@hotmail.com
